| Description | Hemoglobin is the major component of red blood cells, and is responsible for their red color. Hemoglobin is the most important respiratory protein of vertebrates by virtue of its ability to transport oxygen from the lungs to body tissues, and to facilitate the return transport of carbon dioxide. Hemoglobin has an oxygen-binding capacity of 1.34 mL O2 per gram, which increases the total blood oxygen capacity seventy-fold compared to dissolved oxygen in blood. The mammalian hemoglobin molecule can bind up to four oxygen molecules. The product comes in a freeze dried powder of purified hemoglobin, 98 % pure protein. |
