The Agilent 5100 Automated Lab-on-a-Chip Platform (ALP) is Agilent's extension of microfluidic Lab-on-a-Chip technology into high throughput and high resolution sizing and quantitation of DNA and proteins. The 5100 ALP replaces current slab gel techniques such as Agarose gels or SDS-PAGE. Lab-on-a-Chip technology combined with full automation overcomes the known limitations of slab gels. It offers unattended analysis of samples up to 12 standard well plates (96 or 384 formats) with unprecedented reproducibility that is independent of operator, time or location.

From sample loading to final results, sample handling, analysis, detection and data analysis, everything is integrated in one automated system. Results are normalized by internal standards to ensure high reproducibility of both sizing and quantitation.

Using an Oracle? database to handle and store all data and run parameters for the first time, allows scientists to search, retrieve and compare many measurements and whole studies using the 5100 Expert HT software. Data import and export features allow flexible combination with other type of software systems or data mining tools. Barcode reading and usage provides scientists with secure data tracking at any single step from samples to results.
