Bacterial Strain BL21(DE3)pLysS(a)(细菌 BL21 (DE3)pLysS)­可以在T7启动子启动下和核糖体结合位点的帮助下实现高效蛋白表­达。 BL21(DE3)pLysS 对λ-DE3 具有溶源性(1)，含有 T7抗菌素基­因I, 编码 T7 RNA聚合酶的基因(2) 并受到 lac UV5启动子的控制。­BL21(DE3)pLysS 还含有质粒 pLysS, 携带编码 T7溶菌酶素的基因。­T7溶菌酶素可以降低T7启动子控制下的目的基因的背景表达水平，­但是不影响IPTG诱导下蛋白的产量。
