Description

Cardiac fibroblasts (CF) provide structural support for cardiacmyocytes and are responsible for extracellular matrix synthesis in theheart during growth and pathophysiological conditions. CF are animportant cellular component of myocardial responses to injury and thesource of paracrine growth factors. Their proliferation and synthesis ofmatrix is essential for scar formation at sites of myocardial infarction[1] and cardiac fibrosis [2]. CF cultures have been widely used as amodel to study the cardiac matrix remodeling by physiological (exercise)and pathological (hypertension) stressors [3]. CF also has been found toform electric coupling with myocytes through gap junctions exertingelectrotonic influences on the cells. These electronic couplings aresuggested to play an important role in genesis of complex fractionatedatrial electrogram sites and thus are a perfect model for study ofatrial fibrillation [4].
HCF-fa from ScienCell Research Laboratories are isolated from the humanfetal atrium. HCF-fa are cryopreserved at secondary culture anddelivered frozen. Each vial contains >5 x 105 cells in 1 ml volume.HCF-fa are characterized by immunofluorescence with antibody specific tofibronectin. HCF-fa are negative for HIV-1, HBV, HCV, mycoplasma,bacteria, yeast and fungi. HCF-fa are guaranteed to further expand for15 population doublings under the conditions provided by ScienCellResearch Laboratories.


Recommended Medium

It is recommended to use Fibroblast Medium (FM, Cat. #2301) for theculturing of HCF-fa in vitro.

Directly and immediately transfer cells from dry ice to liquid nitrogenupon receiving and keep the cells in liquid nitrogen until cell cultureneeded for experiments.
