The Hemin Assay is a simple, highly sensitive assay to measure hemin levels in various biological samples. In the assay, the pseudoperoxidase activity of hemin converts a colorless, nonfluorescent probe to a strongly colored (detected by spectrophotometry at OD = 570 nm) and fluorescent (Ex 535, Em 587) compound. Therefore, hemin can be detected using both colorimetric assay (detection range is 10-250 pmol) and fluorescence assay (detection range is 1-25 pmol).
