Being able to extract DNA gives scientists the ability to study DNA structure and its biological functions. In this experiment, students spool DNA and are able to visualize the spooled DNA.

• Spooling can be viewed as a process that partially purifies and concentrates high-molecular weight DNA
• DNA will be spooled onto a glass rod from a buffer solution containing salts
