Antithrombin III. Antithrombin III ATH III is a plasma protein synthesized in the liver. Normal plasma levels are115 160 mg/L. ATH III consists of a single polypeptide chain and has a molecular weight of 58 kDa.ATH III is a serine protease inhibitor and through this action regulates blood coagulation. ATH III also hasa heparin binding site and in the presence of heparin the inhibition of thrombin, factors IXa, Xa and XIa isenhanced 1000 fold. Gives a single arc when tested by IEP against human plasma. Identity is confirmed bydouble diffusion Ouchterlony against human plasma and a known anti human antithrombin III. The crossreactivity of this product against the sera of the species listed below has been assessed by double diffusionusing 10 L of antisera against 5 L of species sera. These results are intended as a guideline only.
