Paper Bale Analyser
A portable measuring device for the fast on-site inspection and evaluation of recycled paper bales. Analyses % of moisture, plastic, ash content, fibre and mechanical wood content. Aids the optimisation of the loading of the pulper in a recycled paper mill.
Field of Applications
The Paper Bale Analyser system was developed to test bales of recovered paper on arrival at the mill. Based on optical near infra red (NIR) measuring principles, it is designed to supersede conventional visual inspection and external moisture measurement, by providing an objective method that will also provide much more data concerning the paper bales.
After a small hole has been drilled in the bale, a measuring lance is inserted and within seconds indicates the percentage of moisture, plastic, ash, fibre and wood/chemical pulp content within the interior of the bale.
The probe takes readings 10 times per second, as it is being inserted into the bale, to create a comprehensive spectrum. This completely eliminates the necessity for drying, ashing, or counting paper samples.
Measurement can be carried out on the delivering lorry, ensuring quality control even before the bales have been unloaded. When combined with accurate geolocation mapping of the stored bales, those containing the most appropriate mix of content for the quality of paper, or board, being manufactured can then be recalled to enhance process control.
