With our optional electronic Pulse-Length Control Module (PCM) you can set injection times from 0.1 to 10 seconds. Each time the pedal is pressed, a constant volume is reproducibly injected. This option is crucial for quantitative experiments such as transient expression assays following microinjection of DNA, RNA, protein or other substances.

By controlling the pulse length and pressure independently, you can compensate for the flow characteristics of individual needles; you can determine if the needle is properly placed prior to any appreciable damage occurring to your target; and you can fill your target incrementally. High pressure settings with rapid on/off pulses aid in unclogging needles.

FAQ's

Q: Is there a way to connect the MINJ-2 to a BNC cable instead of thefoot Pedal, so that we can control the ON/OFF of the microinjectorwith a computer or a waveform generator? How precise would controlling the pulse with computer be? Could it do millisecond?
A: Yes, we could upgrade your regular MINJ-2 or you could purchase a custom MINJ-2-TTL. The standard MINJ-2 uses the foot switch to supply 12 volts DC to power the entire unit, so you can't just put a BNC adapter in place of the foot switch. You could theoretically put a mechanical relay there and have a computer trigger for the relay. We can do it so that the TTL signal to the BNC energizes the valve directly. In that case, you can control the length of the pulse very precisely and reproducibly from your software. I recommend this option, since the blue knob on the MINJ-2 could move, and then your pulses will change. The valve itself is rated to fully open or close in 5-10 milliseconds. But it should be precise and reproducible. I recommend that you energize it for at least 10 msec. The built in timing of MINJ-2 has a minimum pulse time of 50-100 msec, but with computer control, you can go faster if you need to.
